It wasn’t that long ago that LED’s were a wonder to behold. If you had a LED watch you were the coolest kid in town now they are everywhere. Now no one takes any notice of LEDs as they are everywhere, outdoor led lighting is the latest use that we have found for them.
Outdoor led lighting has developed from just being used for Christmas lights into fully fledged outdoor light fixtures which you can use as outdoor landscape lighting, outdoor deck lights or even outdoor wall lights. I think that using LED lights on Christmas trees was a stroke of genius as it allowed the general public to become used to them.
This meant that once they saw outdoor led lighting that was designed to be used in landscaping or even on the side of their homes no one thought it was a crazy idea.
Getting accepted by the general public as a legitimate lighting source is a great move forward for LED’s. It is also a great thing for the earth, led lights use a lot less electricity than traditional light bulbs (even the low energy ones) so you can save substantial amounts of money by using them wherever possible in your home.
led lighting produces less heat than traditional bulbs so they can be used in areas where you may have usually worried about anything touching them and catching alight.
Outdoor led lighting
Outdoor led lighting is best known for being included in solar powered outdoor deck lights and it is perfect for the job, the bulbs don’t need much power so the solar units need smaller batteries that will power the lights for longer periods of time. Between Christmas lights and solar powered garden lights I imagine at least half the houses in the country have some form of outdoor led lighting and are not even aware of it.
Christmas lights and garden lights are one thing, they don’t need to be very bright for us to be happy with them and it is rare that they affect our security. The lights that we leave on at night to show us the way is clear to our door need to be brighter and are more important.
So does outdoor led lighting have the power and ability to replace traditional wall lights?
I think that as the technology carries on developing and lighting companies come up with newer and better designs outdoor led lighting will evolve in the marketplace until it is the defacto choice for outside lighting in all parts of your house.
If you live in a region of the country that gets lots of sun you could even use a solar panel and wire that to your outdoor led lighting and have your wall lights run without any mains power. This would be very useful for anyone who either suffers from power cuts or else doesn’t have mains power available for lights to hook up to.
Outdoor led lighting is already here and as far as it has come since the huge watches of 20 years ago, I think LED technology will develop even further in a much shorter space of time from now on.
