In my experience you can go on forever spending money on your garden. It is easy to spend $5k+ on your deck and for most of us that is a lot of money. So people try and save some money wherever they can, don’t make a mistake and scrimp on lighting for that brand new deck.
Outdoor deck lights are a wonderful way to illuminate your nights when you sit outside and enjoy the cool evening air while admiring the new deck.
If you have an older deck then buying nice outdoor deck lights is even more important. Solar deck lights may be the answer if you have an older deck and don’t want to run lots of wiring out to it. If you are looking at solar lights then you need to be sure that you have them placed in areas that get enough sun to allow them to fully charge.
There is no use buying solar lights then putting them in the shade. Although I have seen people buy portable lights that they put in a sunny area all day then move them to the deck as the sun goes down.
Solar powered lights are always going to be dimmer than a mains powered light but they are cheaper to run (can’t get cheaper than free) and they are very low voltage so they are safer. If you want bright lighting at night on your deck you need to either buy lots of solar powered deck lights or else run low voltage electricity from your house out to the deck area.
When running electricity outside it is wise to speak to an professional electrician and if you do decide to do it yourself well the best advise I can give is to read ALL the instructions!
